the pop machine

so like everyone else, i can claim that i spent a hunk of my childhood (oh, ya- as i say it from the ripe old age of 12) watching disney channel. Ah yes- the channel where Debby Ryan, Miley Cyrus, and Selena Gomez first found fame. But as i flipped through a fascinating magazine known as J14, i noticed a rather sinister pattern. Each disney star would start out with a supporting role on a show, eventually win some sontest to get her own show,  sign a contract for a recording deal, and then  even more eventually make deals with outside companies. I mean, i  though that was pretty creepy, that Disney had that little algorithm for cranking out the Celebritys That Will Make Disney Look Good.

Aside- the book Pop Princess, by Rachel Cohn, illustrates the machine that many companies use for cranking out stars.
And people wonder what i have against pop music.
